Welcome to the King County Coin Club web-site!

The King County Coin Club (KCCC) was formed in November 2005 to serve the coin collecting community between Seattle and Tacoma. The club meets on the second Thursday of each month at 7:00 PM at the Tukwila Community Center, 12424 42nd Ave. S. in Tukwila.

The club mission is to provide education and entertainment for its members and visitors alike.

Most meetings follow a regular format- Introductions, news, show and tell, refreshments, a special presentation, an auction and a raffle. We have 3 special meetings a year- a summer Barbeque & Bourse in August, a Holiday Social in December and the Northwest Coin Grading Championship, held in November. Since its inception the club has featured special presentations by noted numismatists of national and local repute.

The club holds a coin show in November and also serves as the host club for the Pacific Northwest Numismatic Association annual convention in April. The KCCC is an American Numismatic Association affiliated club.

We have members of all experience levels. Many good friendships have been formed since the club was started. We encourage all interested parties to visit a meeting and check us out. We guarantee you will have a good time!

We hope you enjoy our web-site and thanks for visiting! If you have any questions regarding our club or if you need some coin advice of a general nature call us up at 206-914-6550.

King County Coin Club

March 2010

In like a lion, out like a lamb. As it is with March, so it goes with life. After 25 years of marriage I’ve been feeling decidedly lamb-like lately. Just lead me and feed me. My manners are better these days primarily because acting up requires more energy than I usually care to muster. Except on bourse days and club nights of course.  That’s when we cut loose.  Anyway, what got me onto this line of thinking was the newsletter from our rival club to the south, the TLCC, also known as the Tacoma Lakewood Coin Club.  Their presentation in March was a talk by President Dave Schmidt on “Bourse Etiquette”. That one tickled my funny bone. Don’t they know that there’s no such thing as bourse etiquette? It’s rules of engagement baby. No prisoners. Do what you gotta do. Our presentation this month will be “Martial Arts Moves and Psychological Subterfuge Techniques That Can Be Employed On the Bourse”.  The instructor is a former Blackwater operative. Participants will be required to sign releases.  I’m only kidding of course. The Tukwila center has asked us to “tone down” our meetings since the episode with the bazooka.  So instead our focus this month shall be “Detecting and Identifying Problem Coins”.  We’ll be taking some freshly graded medals from NGC and covering the grades and designations with tape, similar to our grading contest. It will be both an educational endeavor and a contest. We’ll try to identify which items have net grades and why.  It’ll be fun…

Our guest speaker last month was the most illustrious Scott Loos from the Seattle Numismatic Society. Scott gave an expert presentation on ancients which was well received by the club. By well received I mean that no one had to be subdued during Scott’s talk.  Who knows? Our reputation may be improving. Spiking the coffee with sedatives seems to be working.

Our featured numismatic item this month is the obverse of a Georgia “state fund dollar” from the Panama Pacific Expo of 1915. A beautiful design and quite scarce, particularly in the silver plated variety, as shown.

Come hungry Thursday, we’ll order pizza!

Bring your auction and show & tell items!
